CMU Aims to Be a “Carbon Neutral University”<\/p>\n

Part 4: Climate Adaptation & Resilience<\/p>\n

In an era where climate change’s impacts are becoming more pronounced and severe, including droughts, floods, storms, and extreme weather events, simply reducing greenhouse gas emissions is not enough. Therefore, Chiang Mai University (CMU) prioritizes adaptation and resilience to mitigate impacts and ensure sustainability for both the university and surrounding communities.

\n1. Impact Assessment
\no Analyze the impacts of climate change on the community, the university, and stakeholder groups.
\no Collect and develop data into a database for systematic response planning.
\n2. Integration into the University Development Plan
\no Incorporate adaptation and risk reduction measures into the university’s strategic and development plans. To ensure all operations are aligned with the Sustainable Development Goals,
\n3. Risk Management and Disaster Response Planning
\no Develop risk management and recovery plans for disasters such as floods and landslides
\no Develop effective warning and response systems
\n4. Support for community knowledge and networks
\no Promote learning about water, natural resources, and disaster management
\no Expand collaboration with communities and local authorities to build shared resilience
\n5. Development of Information Technology Tools and Technology
\no Use information systems and digital tools for risk assessment and early warning
\no Build preparedness to cope with rapidly changing situations

\nCMU has the Academic Center for Water Management Support, a central organization that integrates knowledge and experts in water and the environment to support data development, research, and collaboration with various agencies to drive strategic initiatives.
\nIn addition, it focuses on developing personnel in the areas of carbon and sustainability and establishing a collaborative network for climate action among academic institutions, the government, the business sector, and the community.
