CMU Aims to Be a “Carbon Neutral University”<\/p>\n

Part 3: GHG Removal, Capture & Storage<\/p>\n

In addition to monitoring and mitigating greenhouse gas emissions, Chiang Mai University (CMU) also focuses on GHG removal, capture, and storage, a key mechanism to achieve the university’s sustainable Carbon Neutrality and Net Zero goals.

\n\ud83d\udd0e Carbon Sequestration Measures in Green Areas
\n1. Assessment and Monitoring
\no CMU has developed a system to assess and monitor GHG removal in green areas both within and around the university.
\no Using digital technology to collect data and report results to ensure accurate and transparent measurement.
\n2. Green Area Conservation and Restoration
\no Restoring over 4,000 rai of forest, which can store up to 8,000 tCO\u2082e of carbon per year.
\no Increasing carbon sequestration potential while preserving biodiversity and a balanced ecosystem.
\n3. Carbon Capture, Utilization & Storage (CCUS) Technology Development
\no Study and apply CCUS innovation to enhance future carbon sequestration measures.
\no Promote industrial applications to reduce macro-emissions and extend research into practical applications.

\nIncreasing green space and restoring forests are key pillars of natural carbon sequestration. CMU has dedicated over 4,000 rai of land to forest and ecosystem restoration, aiming to transform these areas into sustainable “carbon sinks” that can generate shared benefits for the community.

\nChiang Mai University recognizes that carbon reduction alone is not sufficient; carbon capture and storage are required to truly achieve Net Zero goals. Therefore, a combination of reforestation, green space maintenance, and CCUS technology research is key to CMU’s path to becoming a model environmental university.
