Solar rooftops reduce electricity costs for CMU by more than 12.5 million baht per year! Another success for Chiang Mai University under the Solar Rooftop project.
Chiang Mai University is taking concrete steps towards becoming a Green University by installing a solar rooftop system covering the entire campus.
This project, implemented by the Energy Research and Development Institute (ERDI-CMU), aims to reduce reliance on external electricity and minimize environmental impacts.
Successful figures:
Solar rooftop panels installed on 168 buildings.
Total generating capacity of over 12.68 megawatts (MW).
Reduced electricity consumption from the Provincial Electricity Authority (PEA) by up to 17%.
Saving at least 12.5 million baht in electricity costs per year.
Reducing carbon dioxide emissions by more than 7,400 tons of CO₂ equivalent per year.
In addition to reducing energy costs, the solar rooftop project is a key mechanism for reducing the university’s greenhouse gas emissions in the long term, helping to position Chiang Mai University as a model for renewable energy use in the education sector.
Clean energy is not only good for the environment, but also provides tangible long-term cost savings for organizations like Chiang Mai University.
