CMU Receives the “Climate Action Excellence” Award from the Federation of Thai Industries.


Chiang Mai University, represented by Associate Professor Prasert Rerkriangkrai, Vice President, received the prestigious “Climate Action Excellence” award at the CCI Climate Change Forum 2025, held on Monday, September 15, 2025, at the M Tower building. Organized by the Climate Change Institute, Federation of Thai Industries, the award reinforces CMU’s leadership role in driving society toward sustainability and addressing the country’s climate change challenges.
The Climate Action Excellence Award is given to organizations that have demonstrated outstanding performance in greenhouse gas emissions reduction (GHG Reduction), renewable energy transition, and sustainable resource management, serving as best practices for society and the industrial sector.
This year, Chiang Mai University was the only institution to receive the Climate Action Excellence award, comparable to leading Thai organizations and companies recognized for their sustainability, such as the energy and large industrial sectors. This achievement reflects Chiang Mai University’s commitment to systematically developing and implementing a Carbon Neutrality plan, covering five key areas:
• Carbon Footprint Monitoring
by developing a platform and management plan to ensure efficient and verifiable data tracking
• GHG Mitigation
through energy-saving measures, promoting renewable energy, and sustainable waste management
• GHG Removal, Capture & Storage
by utilizing CCUS technology, creating carbon sinks, and generating carbon credits/offsets
• Climate Adaptation & Resilience
by enhancing system resilience and adaptability to climate change, while connecting work networks
• Education, Research & Community Outreach
by developing knowledge on energy and the environment, transferring it to teaching and learning, establishing training centers, and collaborating with various sectors
and reinforcing CMU’s vision of becoming a Carbon Neutral University
This award not only honors Chiang Mai University but also confirms Thai educational institutions can stand on the same level as leading businesses in driving the country’s Carbon Neutrality and Net Zero Emissions goals.
