✨ CMU aims to become a “Carbon Neutral University” with 5 key conceptual frameworks.
Chiang Mai University recognizes the importance of climate change and has announced its commitment to becoming a carbon-neutral university. This framework outlines five key operational principles, reflecting the integration of clean energy, research, innovation, and community collaboration:
🌱 Theme 1: Carbon Footprint Monitoring
Monitoring and managing greenhouse gas emissions
The university has developed a digital platform for collecting and analyzing carbon footprint data to plan and implement greenhouse gas emission reduction measures in a systematic, transparent, and auditable manner.
☀️ Theme 2: GHG Mitigation
Reducing greenhouse gas emissions
Through energy efficiency measures, investments in renewable energy sources such as solar and biomass, and waste management to reduce greenhouse gas emissions, CMU has become a model for clean energy and sustainable environmental management.
🌳 Theme 3: GHG Removal, Capture & Storage
The university promotes research in Carbon Capture and Storage (CCUS) technology, along with restoring green spaces, planting trees, and creating natural carbon sinks. Ready to promote the Carbon Offset project in collaboration with surrounding communities.
🔄 Theme 4: Climate Adaptation & Resilience
Adaptation and strengthening resilience to climate change.
CMU conducts research and development to address the impacts of climate change and builds collaborative networks with external agencies to enhance the resilience and safety of students, staff, and local communities.
📚 Theme 5: Education, Research & Community Outreach
Education, research, and knowledge transfer to society.
The university has established a learning center, developed curricula, and conducted research on energy and sustainability. It has also fostered partnerships with the public, private, and local communities to broaden its reach and benefit Thai society as a whole.
The implementation of these five conceptual frameworks reflects Chiang Mai University’s commitment to becoming not only an educational institution and research center, but also a model for environmental and energy management, aiming to become a carbon-neutral university, inspiring society and the nation to move towards true sustainability. 🌍✨
