Chiang Mai University has been awarded a Carbon Neutral Certificate by the Thailand Greenhouse Gas Management Organization (Public Organization) (TGO) as the organizer of CMU Trekking 2024. This certification marks a proud achievement for the university as it strives to become a Green University that prioritizes the environment and sustainability.
CMU Trekking 2024: A Tradition of Unity toward Environmental Sustainability
CMU Trekking 2024 is an annual traditional event at Chiang Mai University. Held on November 16, 2024, the event features a trek up to Phra That Doi Suthep to pay respect to Chiang Mai’s sacred monument and strengthen relationships between alumni and juniors.
In addition to preserving this beautiful culture, this year Chiang Mai University has also raised its standards to be more environmentally friendly. The program has calculated and offset 107 tons of carbon dioxide equivalent (tCO₂eq) of greenhouse gas emissions from the event.
CMU and the Path to a Green University
This achievement reflects Chiang Mai University’s commitment to reducing its environmental impact. It also promotes sustainable development through its Carbon Credit approach and greenhouse gas emission reduction projects, serving as a model for educational institutions and other organizations seeking to transform themselves into an environmentally friendly future.
This certificate was signed by Ms. Natrika Wayupap Nitiphon, Deputy Director of the Thailand Greenhouse Gas Management Organization (TGO) (Acting Director).
This certificate is evidence of Chiang Mai University’s success in balancing cultural conservation and environmental stewardship.
Chiang Mai University continues to develop approaches to reduce greenhouse gas emissions and support environmentally friendly activities, serving as a model for educational institutions and organizations in the future.
